LaMERG is Stony Brook University’s Language, Music, and Emotion Research Group. Founded in 2012-2013 by faculty and students in Linguistics, Psychology, and Music, LaMERG aims to advance interdisciplinary research focused on the interfaces between musical cognition, human language, and emotion. The group was created under Stony Brook’s interdisciplinary FAHSS initiative (http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/fahss//index.html) and is currently supported by the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Fund for Excellence. Our activities involve a regular reading group, a distinguished speaker series, hosting lectures by local scholars, and occasional workshops.
Organizers are John F. Bailyn, Susan Brennan, John Drury, Nicole Calma, Amanda Yazdani, Andrew Conklin, and Rob Pasternak.
